Viking

Vikings represent an extremely popular and influential theme that can lead to a large array of concepts and characters. Quite distinct from the more brutish barbarian archetype, the Nordic warrior is probably one of the most popular of these classic fantasy characters.

Druidic

In fantasy, druids are often portrayed as wise and knowledgeable hermits, well learned natural scholars that have herbs and concoctions for many purposes. Their relationship with society is complex, as they may occupy an important spiritual role for their community, but may feel closer to the wild, its inhabitants, and its spirits than any tribe or clan.

Legend

They had sailed along the Volga river to trade in Miklagard, the Great City where lived those so-called Romans. Their ships were loaded with furs and pelts, as well as walrus ivory and precious metal, riches from the Western Christian's temples, pillaged then melted to hide their origin. The Great City had made the fortune of many Vikings for generations, the Romans eager to trade and wealthy enough to buy, allowing the Norse to return with Eastern goods and good strong steel. Young warriors were travelling with trade expedition, ambitious youth hoping to impress the Emperor and join his personal guard, the Varangian Guard, solely composed of foreign mercenaries of Norse descent.

The Romans paid the big price for Scandinavian, Rus, and even Saxon warriors, and those serving the Emperor would leave rich as kings after the end of their duties. The old Varangians that returned North were always speaking with awe and admiration about Miklagard, or Constantinople like they called it. The young warriors were quite serious about their desire to join and were preparing their weapons with great focus in preparation for their test. Axes were sharpened, and seax were made so keen one could shave the hair or his arm with them. After all, even if all weren't selected to serve, the weapons would be useful for their return home. They had seen plenty of riches in the countries they crossed, riches ripe for raiding.
